Cape Verde car rental - Sal and Sao Vicente
4x4 car rental enables you to get to those magic places that other tourists cannot reach. 4x4's also offer more ground clearance, which can be extremely useful even on made-up roads. You can get off road to deserted beaches and places to swim, surf and windsurf, and visit villages and meet some people. There are restaurants and bars off the beaten track too.
The advantage of booking car rental before you go is that you don't waste precious time trying to organise car rental when you get there, when you may find that only the expensive cars at nearly 100 euros a day are available. We have looked around to find reasonably priced car rental from companies that deliver. Unfortunately, cars are expensive to buy in Sal due to shipping costs and high import duties and this is reflected in rental prices.

Note: Prices include insurance, pick up drop off and additional drivers. All drivers must be over 25 and hold a valid driving licence from a European country (other countries on request). All prices subject to change, and availability. Because everything has to be imported by sea or air to the islands, it is possible that items on the car may be missing or broken, but if this is the case, the car hire companies don't hold you to blame. Cars are quite booked up, and if your size is not available, there is no automatic free subsitution of a larger model. Caution of 200 euros required, refundable if no theft or dents.
Guest comments on car hire
Despite having visited Sal on several occasions, hiring a car for a week meant we got to all sorts of different spots on the island. It speeded up trips into Espargos and Santa Maria and we could come and go as we pleased. We discovered many new parts of the island and saw more of its volcanic structure, including driving round the top of the volcano crater at Salinas and to the cliff edge at Buraccona. The remote beaches and spots we stopped for picnics and swims could only be reached by 4 x 4. We stuffed everything into the car, body boards, beach towels, swim suits, deck chairs, pic nic and drinks. I will definitely hire again when I return. C from London
